First Showcase; Crying for Love

Exams finally ended last Saturday noon, but the real event for myself in 2008 has just began. With so much to prepare for SMU Art Fest 2009, i can't help but went to work immediately after the last exam.

After thinking about the concept for the past 3 weeks, i've decided to showcase more than one work. Besides the "Real World" graffiti featuring the arrows as the background, i will be using Stencil Art as another platform to deliver the concept for the Art Fest.

So far, I'm planning for 4 showcase. But there may be more along the way as ideas are constantly changing at the back of my head. The first work i'm trying to deliver for this Friday consultation with the OSL is a small kid crying. The actual showcase will feature 2 adults standing at both end of the crying kid, with the father of the crying kid will be carrying another kid. But the highlight of the showcase is a broken arrow beside the crying kid.

The concept was derived from the idea that when we were young, we were constantly given instructions by the adults. And when we refuse to listen, we will receive all sort of punishment. Thus, we ended up crying. Just like the featured crying kid, he broke the arrow (instruction) given by his parents and ended crying because both parents did not bother about him. At the same time, another kid (carried by the father figure), will be holding on to a unbroken arrow.

Sound confusing? Maybe. But i'll showcase the actual work when it's done. That will be easier to digest!
